However, none of these liquids is designed for these applications. Automatic transmission fluid is a hydraulic fluid formulated without the extreme pressure additives necessary to provide greater protection against wear, which leaves gears and chains vulnerable to premature failures. The lubricant for automotive gears is designed to lubricate hypoid gears and is too thick for proper lubrication of chains and gears in motorized sports applications, which harms circulation and generates wear and lower energy efficiency.
