The manufacturer suggests upgrading to the following three-phase charging system on fuel-injected models. For 2002-2003 FLH/FLT models, see code 2112-1820 for the complete upgrade system. For 2004-2005 FLH/FLT models, see code 2112-1821 for the complete upgrade system. Stock single-phase alternators on fuel-injected models generate excessive output, which overloads the charging system and creates excessive drag on the crankshaft. Upgrading to a three-phase system offers smoother output, improved reliability, significantly lower crankshaft losses, and increased charging capacity (when upgrading from 38 A). The upgrade requires replacing the stator, rotor, and rectifier regulator as an assembly.
