S&S Superstock™ crankcases, constructed from 356-T6 aluminum, are much stronger than OEM crankcases.
OEM crankcases can/may crack in high-performance or even stock applications, as more than a few of us found out the hard way.
These S&S Superstock™ crankcases can be used for both stock and competition replacement applications.
The substantial labor savings achieved by using S&S crankcases is important for engine manufacturers.
These crankcases come "set up" with Timken sprocket shaft main bearing races and cam needle bearings installed and the pinion shaft main bearing race pressed and ground.
Additional parts supplied include Timken sprocket shaft bearings, cylinder studs, nickel-plated crankcase bolts, crankcase fittings, an oil pressure sensor, timing and magnetic crankcase drain plugs, and a specially designed S&S alternator stator plug retaining screw. Flywheel scrapers are machined to match the original 8-1/2" diameter flywheels. S&S cases maximize crankcase oil cleaning efficiency through the use of a ported vent design. S&S cases are cleared up to and including 5"; no additional cylinder clearance is required. S&S cases are furnished complete with assembly instructions. Note: S&S cases for 36-54 Knuckle and Panhead models will not accept OEM flywheels, pinions, or sprocket shafts, as late style (1955 and up) Timken bearings are used in all S&S cases. 55 and up shafts will not fit OEM 36-54 flywheels, S&S does not recommend machining 36-54 flywheels to accept 55 and up shafts.
For all 36-55 BT applications, 58-81 pinion (MCS 512404) and 55-64 spline sprocket (MCS 512401) shafts can be used with S&S flywheels, which all have a 6° shaft taper with keyway.
Note: S&S 36-72 models The oil pump (MCS 519922) can be used with all S&S 36-69 crankcases.
Note: In each and every application, the technician must be able to evaluate the suitability of the components in combination with the other engine components before installation. It is important that an experienced mechanic install and make any necessary adjustments.
