S&S Chrome/Molybdenum Replacement Piston Ring Set.
Fits all Evolution and pre-Evolution engines that are equipped with an S&S 3-5/8" Big Bore kit that has 1/16" (1.5mm) compression rings and 5/32" (4.2mm) oil rings. Fits other manufacturers' 3-5/8" Big Bore kits (such as some Axtell kits), which are equipped with the same piston grooves.
Standard cylinder bore: 3.625" (92.075 mm). 1st ring: 1.5 mm (0.058"). 2nd ring: 1.5 mm (0.058").
Oil ring: 4.2 mm (0.155").
Note the compression ring gap: It is very important to determine the correct ring gap on newly installed piston rings.
Too tight a gap can result in premature piston ring/cylinder wall wear or even seizure, possibly breaking the rings and/or damaging the pistons and/or cylinder walls, etc.
A piston ring gap that is wider than necessary will result in unnecessary compression loss and reduced engine efficiency.
The recommended ring gap is 0.004" per inch of cylinder bore for street engines.
For a 3-5/8" (3.625") bore, the engine piston ring gap would be 3.625" x 0.004" = 0.0145". (0.0145" x 25.4 = 0.3683 mm or, when rounded, 0.37 mm).
