OEM style replacement alternator clutch housing/rotor with primary chain sprocket combination.
Ball bearing included.
The magnets are encapsulated in a stainless steel housing.
This will help prevent the magnets from coming loose, which often happens with OEM equipment.
OEM replacement part number 36791-84.
Note: Replacement clutch hub ball bearing is available separately as 556626/36799-84.
TECH TIP: On the L84-90 XL Sportster, the alternator is mounted on the clutch hub.
This was a bad design.
Excessive clearance between the clutch hub bearing, the main shaft ball bearing, and the needle bearing between the two parts of the driveshaft allows the clutch hub to tilt sideways, enough to allow the stator and clutch hub to fit through.
Stator and/or clutch hub polishing is sometimes performed, but MCS does not recommend it, as it adds clearance which reduces production.
It is better to install new bearings.
Since 1991, the alternator has been moved and the rotor rotates on the axis of the gear wheel.
This solved the problem.
