We assembled and tested the oil pump kit for Harley-Davidson Twin Cam S&S TC3

One of the weaknesses of Twin Cam engines is the distribution area, where camshafts, oil pump and hydraulic chain tensioners are housed.

The original pump and distribution plate are easily damaged, losing efficiency. American manufacturer S&S has launched the new high-performance TC3 board and pump kits that offer longer life and superior features.

They are made of CNC forged aluminium (lower internal porosity) and have a greater structural force than that of the source components. The pump has 2 differentiated oil return sections, one for the motor crankcase and one for the distribution area, obtaining higher performance without interference. A magnet has been installed at the entrance of the return so that the metal particles do not reach the pump inside.

Internal gears (gerotors) allow greater tolerance on the crankshaft without damage. The plate is equipped with bronze bushings that can be replaced in case of wear, without having to replace the entire plate.

One of the most interesting features is the possibility to be able to manually adjust the pressure of the oil pump (it is adjusted to 40psi from the factory) if necessary, without having to disassemble the distribution plate.

The assembly is done following the steps of the Harley-Davidson manual for the specific year and model, respecting the tightening torques and assembly order of the components. After the tests we have carried out we find a very smooth and quiet operation and a constant oil pressure, both cold and at operating temperature.
