Radio-Multimedia Harley-Davidson equipment
Share
We are going to make a totally practical article dedicated especially to the big travelers on their Harley-Davidson Touring models, where we will improve the original radio of the first Rushmore models.
Original equipment
In September 2013, the new Harley-Davidson Touring models of the Rushmore project, which equipped important improvements in comfort and entertainment and as a great novelty they enjoyed liquid cooling in some models were presented in world first.
One of the main elements was the new radio with 4.3 -inch screen, with its new joystick -type control in the handlebar.
Adapting to needs
One of the design bases of the Rushmore models was that they had been conceived thinking about the needs and demands of the users, and that is why they immediately realized that they asked for a more current radio model, with a touch screen and touch screen and GPS navigation with maps.
Said and done, in the Company engine accessories catalog, the Boom Box 6.5GT replacement radius appeared, with its largest and tactile screen, GPS with compass navigation and maps and some performance improvements. It was such a success that was incorporated as serial equipment in the 2015 Touring models.
Direct replacement
We are going to update the 2014 original radio model by a 6.5 -inch Boom box radius. Incidentally and as aesthetic improvement we will also install the radio antenna kit for fairing, which allows us to dispense with the traditional antenna mast replacing it with an electronic system located under the “batwing” cover.
Hands to work
We begin as always disconnecting the negative battery terminal to avoid “scares” and proceed to extract the lid or “batwing” following the instructions of the service manual.
We continue with the disassembly of the watches and we will release the rear connections of the radio.
Then we will loosen the four screws that hold it to its support
And we can extract it, leaving the free hole for the new team.
With the 2 radios together we can see the difference in tactile screen size.
Assembly and update
We will begin the assembly of the new device following the previous steps. Instead of connecting the original antenna we will locate the new one under the fairing using the adhesives provided in the kit
and we will plug it into the corresponding connectors.
After this step we will take the opportunity to mount the new GPS signal receiving antenna on the radio, using its adhesive base on the surface that we will have previously cleaned with alcohol.
Now we can re -assemble the fairing, first connecting the main lighthouse,
and try the new navigation mode, which will initially show a compass
Until we take out the vehicle outside and the significant signal of global positioning satellites is received, after which we will see the map of our location on the screen.
Keep in mind that it is possible that due to the system configuration we must use a computer at our usual dealership or workshop to match the parameters (world area, speakers number, etc).
As the software of these devices is well known, and if at any time we want to check or update the firmware we must only go through the manufacturer's website And in a few minutes we can update it via USB.

Gracias
