A little philosophy
One of the things I like most about customization is the possibility of customizing our vehicle while we can add functionality or increase the performance of the replaced piece. In fact, I consider that apart from the aesthetic issue, there must always be a why when we remove, change or add some element to our motorcycle. At first they cut and dismantled pieces simply to lose weight, and already stylized the mount and made it "different." Later they began to replace parts with others of higher performance or quality, and finally new products were installed when there was a specific need. Always, of course, maintaining the original minimalist philosophy of the "chopper": what is not weighs, does not break, and does not count money ...
Motogadget
Continuing with this minimalism we find a European company that manufactures really small accounting, at the same time that allow us to eliminate heavy and bulky supports they provide more information without adding any accessory to the machine, getting into the purist tendency but providing modernity . Apart from this we will obtain more information, such as motor revolutions, simply taking advantage of the original resources of the motorcycle.
In this case we will proceed to replace the original accounting of our Harley-Davidson Sportster by the MINI MOTOSCOPE
And we will take the opportunity to install it in the handlebar support clamp, eliminating the standard support.
The kit
To perform this operation we will use a mini motorcycle, a hole handlebar support and indicator lights and a small interface (M-Can) that will allow us to read the data directly from the switchboard by facilitating the information in real time of speed and rpm.
To explain a little how the interface takes advantage of the information I will explain that the injection switchboard (ECM) communicates with the various motorcycle sensors with a digital language, called J1850, in a kind of “internet” that the vehicle possesses. In this way the speed sensor captures the transmission pinion's turn, communicates it to the ECM and it in turn sends the signal to the original accountkilometers so that the needle moves to the right place, indicating the driver the speed. The motorcycle interface reads this information and sends it to the new device, together with the information of the motor revolutions. Best of all, it connects and ready, you do not have to make any adjustment or calibrate anything.
Facility
We start by disassembling the original piece
And then we insert the mini accountkilometers in its location in the cover of the handlebars, holding it with the lower screws.
We set up the clamp in the towers and make the recommended tightening in the HD manual, and voila.
Connections
We go to plug the interface in the connector where technicians normally connect the diagnostic computer, in our model it is located next to the battery. It is very important to remember that the majority of failures in electronic systems of modern motorcycles are caused by connection problems, so we will use dielectric silicone to facilitate contact and prevent moisture into the connectors.
The Minei Kilometers needs a button to change the different visualizations, we have discarded the one that comes in the kit and we have reused the original button, relocating it on the side cover, thus we leave the handlebar completely free.
We leave everything well subject and we only have to weld the connections of the indicator lamps, with a little patience and precision.
Enjoy it!
Once everything in its place again we will check that it works correctly, and we will do it while we turn the handlebar from one side to another, to verify that there are no problems in the wiring.
From now on we have a totally clean handlebar and we can also see the RPM of the engine in real time, all with a very elegant minimalist concept.

GRACIAS.
Gracias
