How to see and delete the error codes or Harley-Davidson failure
Share
Functionalities
Electronic injection systems use a small computer integrated in the motorcycle electrical equipment to mainly manage 2 things:
- How much gasoline does the engine need and at what time (injectors control)
- When this gasoline is burned (ignition spark control)
To carry out this task, the EFI system consists of sensors and actuators, receiving and sending signals many times per second.
When a sensor (input), actuator (output) or its associated systems incorrectly work the motorcycle switch Back home or workshop and activating the error code light to warn the driver that something is not doing well.
Historical and current
The error codes can be current, in real time, or they can be historical, that is, they have occurred at a given time but they have been corrected automatically and are simply recorded in the memory record.
If the motorcycle has a current motor failure, the fault light will remain constantly burning, if it turns on when the contact is put and turns off after 8 seconds indicates that the code (or codes) is historical.
If the failure is relative to the flashing or to the alarm system instead of motor failure light, the "key" symbol in the display will ignite and if the problem is of ABS will be indicated by its own failure light.
Access to failure codes (wow test)
Contrary to what many users think a computer is not necessary to be able to read, interpret or delete the failure codes.
Simply keep pressing the Reset button of the accountingchilometers while putting the ignition key on "ON". The needle of the instrument will move throughout its route and all witnesses will light up, after which the fault codes menu will appear in the digital display:
- P = Powertrain includes motor -related codes and ECM
- B = Body includes the systems that make up some electrical, immobilizer and intermittent systems or radio
- C = chassis includes chassis related systems such as ABS systems
- SP = Speedo errors related to the speedometer
- T = Tachometer errors related to telling
- U = Network Includes problems related to data transmission from one module to another, communication networks can be found and leave complete systems outside the system. In that case any of the remaining modules can generate a code related to that system.
Using the press button of the account button, we can “pass” from one menu to another (short pulsation) or we can enter each of the menus (long pulsation). Within the menus we will see the numbers that represent the different fault codes:

If at any time we keep the reset button pressured for more than 2 seconds we will erase all the error codes (the "CLR" letters appear).
It seems complicated, but it is not
Now that we already know how to access, read and delete the fault codes you will see that it is very easy to make a first diagnosis in case a problem occurs, since the table number will guide you directly to the problematic sensor or system, and Following the indications of the workshop manual for your year and model you can perform the relevant tests to find the problem and correct it.
A very important recommendation when verifying the EFI system is to read well and understand each test specified in the manual, in this way and with a simple “step by step” we will be able to solve complex problems.

Thanks bro, was very usefull the information
Gracias
Me aparece R 10 ?
