Harley-Davidson workshop books: where to find them
Share
We must recognize it, if our passion is the Harley-Davidson (or Triumph, Indian, Honda, Buell, ECT) we will find the best books and manuals in English. We have no choice but to assemble patience in trying to learn something about this language, since currently automatic translators do not do a good job with technical words, and we can find ourselves for example that they translate "hydraulic pusher" by "diver." ..O something worse!
Fortunately, the Spanish -speaking community has increasing weight for the great distributors of technical literature, and some works (few) are translating into Spanish.
My recommendation is that if you have time and patience you invest it in learning this language, it will be very useful in this globalized world.
Meanwhile, I recommend you start with the Arias Paz Classic "Motorcycles", is without South the best technical initiation book to the motorcycles written in our language.
Different books for different types
Not all technical books are the same, there are more or less complete, more or less complex, manual, instructions, maintenance, for potentiation ... we will make a brief review of the most important (in this article we are going to focus Only in the printed material, in a subsequent article we will talk about electronic books and manuals, audiovisual technical material and online resources):
-Philial workshop manuals: They are by far the best, especially those of Harley-Davidson. They can usually be found in Spanish. Very good graphics, schemes and photographs.
They can be structured in several specific volumes, for example mechanics or electricity.
-Clymer Technical Manuals: The American standard to "Hag it yourself." Simple and complete, they cover operations with “home” tools in many cases, and when a process is very complex or requires special tool they recommend disassembling the piece and taking it to the professional workshop. Almost everything in English, sufficient illustrations and photographs.
-Manuals Haynes: They are halfway between the official manuals and those of Clymer, they are very technical but well explained, with good illustrations and very simple to interpret. I have seen them use in the United Kingdom as books for professional training. The paste: There is very little variety in Spanish.
-Ptermarket manufacturers instructions: Again almost always in English, it is very good and technical information, sometimes even better than that of official houses, since it is usually more specific. You have to read and understand it, you learn a lot.
-Ceécnitorials: If we like to do mechanics on our motorcycles we will be thus motorbooks, Whitehorypress and the like. In your catalog we will find restoration manuals, potentiation guides, workshop manuals and endless interesting information.
Conclusion
It must be emphasized that in this simplified and oriented list to custom and American engines, I mainly leave many good books and editorials in the inkwell, although if we love technical reading we will verify that we are suffering an evolution, and the books that before us before They seemed interesting become superfluous as we move forward (learning) and every time we will demand greater quality and depth.
Reading will make us reason and expand our knowledge and logical capacity, something essential in mechanics, which will give us security when it comes to undertake work in our engine.
Keep in mind that the difference between an amateur (good technical reader) and a professional mechanic is that the professional works and diagnoses faster and is more productive, but in both cases a good job can be done if the indications are followed correctly.
