Chain drive like the standard one.
The larger bolt-on camshaft offers a significant increase in power and torque.
Measurements taken by S&S on the dyno: Low Rider ST 2023 with HPT496 camshaft, Stealth air filter, Super Street exhaust, maximum power of 120.73 hp at 5770 RPM and maximum torque of 127.04 hp at 3230 RPM.
Low Rider ST 2023 standard: maximum power of 91.2 HP at 4680 RPM and maximum torque of 119.2 HP at 2960 RPM.
Compatible with all standard components, but requires a free-venting air filter and exhaust silencers.
With every camshaft change, S&S recommends its 583903 precision tappet assembly kit.
This kit includes the camshaft, all necessary bearings, O-rings, and screws.
Gear-driven camshafts offer greater accuracy in valve timing, but a louder mechanical noise, compared to chain-driven camshafts.
The additional mechanical noise is the reason why original equipment manufacturers use chain-driven cams.
Note: For optimal performance, as with all high-performance camshafts, it is recommended to use an air filter and an easy-breathing exhaust system.
