This is the Powerglide with a fail-safe solid bronze alloy hub instead of a regular roller bearing.
There are no other differences between the regular Powerglide and Powerglide Steady Roll tappets.
Full bearing contact provides greater stability, longer life, and quieter operation due to the tighter tolerances this hub design allows.
The main drawback of a worn needle roller bearing is that it will eventually break, spilling steel needles all over the engine.
This is no longer a problem.
Even when the Steady Roll bronze bushing wears, the design is fail-safe.
Like the other Jims Powerglide™ lifters, this Steady Roll version will give you superior hydraulic function compared to OEM-style equipment, a billet steel body with hand-polished hydraulic unit cavity and an oil-fed shaft.
To achieve full power, you must have zero valve lash and eliminate hydraulic unit collapse as found in the OEM unit, also called "damper syndrome."
Failure to keep the valve fully open will result in a loss of power.
Jims Powerglide tappets are as close to a solid tappet as possible, but can still compensate for heat expansion.
They will even work well with solid style camshafts.
Direct replacement for OEM 18538-99C.
