VW type approvals 508 00 and 509 00 are prescribed for many Volkswagen Group vehicles.

VW 508 00 and VW 509 00 are relatively new type approvals specifically designed to meet the requirements of fuel-efficient gasoline and diesel engines. Both the 509 00 diesel and 508 00 gasoline versions are factory-specified with a viscosity of 0W-20. The low viscosity promotes lower fuel consumption and meets the ever-increasing engine demands and emission standards.
