It's clear that we live in an era where the constant obsession with avoiding liability in cases of accidents on public roads leads to increasingly restrictive demands on motorcyclists. An example is a law recently passed in France requiring the driver and passenger of a motorcycle, trike, or quad to wear gloves.
Following a study conducted in the neighboring country regarding motorcycle accident accidents, the decision was made to mandate the use of approved gloves to reduce hand and wrist injuries in the event of a fall starting November 20.
The fine for not wearing gloves will be €68 and the loss of one point from the license. This has not pleased motorcycling associations, as it is incomprehensible that points should be revoked when the safety of anyone not in the vehicle has not been endangered. This law already had a precedent with another law that came into effect in January of this year, which required motorcyclists to carry a reflective vest for use in the event of a breakdown.
The truth is that sometimes, instead of banning, it might be more effective to run awareness campaigns so that users themselves can decide on the different methods of personal protection, after obtaining the appropriate information.
